Hofgut Sternen Review

Hofgut Sternen is a small model village in the middle of the Black Forest. Located in Breitnau, Germany it is right next to trails through Ravenna Gorge, a popular hiking location in the Black Forest.

This location is definitely meant for tourists, but it attempts to provide as authentic of an experience as possible.

Nestled in between two historic locations, a church, and historic execution hill, this small village teaches about the history of the Black Forest region and displays some of its more famous products (which are all available for purchase).

It has one of the most extensive selections of Cuckoo Clocks I have ever seen and there are clocks to fit a wide range of budgets so you don't have to take out a small loan to afford one, however, there are clocks that are that expensive as well.

If you are coming here I would highly recommend climbing up to the historic site of public executions even if you are not interested in the history behind it.

The hill it is located on gives amazing views of both the village of Hofgut Sternen and the surrounding Black Forest. The trek is worth it for these views alone, and it isn't that difficult of a hill to walk up.

You will find bears everywhere in Hofgut Sternen. This bear was carved out of wood. They make great photo opportunities even if they are a little touristy.

As for merchandise, beyond the already mentioned Cuckoo Clocks, there is also a glass shop and a more traditional Black Forest gift shop.

I mention it because the more traditional gift shop is a bit hidden. It is on an upper level of one of the buildings. When I was there this giant bear (yes another one) was just outside the entrance so it might be something to look for.

There is a hotel right in the village, although I did not stay there so I can not provide a review of it. It looked nice on the outside.

There is also a very good restaurant here that serves classic German foods and some comfort foods. Nothing astonishing but still very good.

By far the best part of Hofgut Sternen is just how photogenic it is. There is a stone train bridge behind the village that looks like something out of a painting, and it is still actively used.

Every building in this village looks like a classic European village. It may not be the most authentic place but it is certainly a fun addition to a larger tour of the Black Forest.
